History
It is no secret that
the biggest moneymaking sites on the Internet are porn sites.
So it should come as no surprise that this site stands to make
not a cent! So why do it, why is it here? Who are these people
with this much time on their hands to create this madness?
Well, it started
in August 2003 when Suzanne, aggrieved over the cancellation
of 'Micallef Tonight' decided to build a website about Shaun
as way of protest, collating every bit of information she
could find on the web about him. Three months later,
Larns decided to do the same, and it didn't take long for the
two to cross paths and join forces. Ewan emailed Suzanne enthusiastically
from the UK, begging to create a UK section of the site or
some other feature. He was quickly enlisted as a columnist.
Fan support and contributions steadily grew, of which a
particularly large number of submissions were coming from
Cynthia, who eventually joined the team full time. Stu,
through his friendship with Cyn and Suzanne, took on behind
the scenes video dubbing duties, and eventually was
acknowledged as a full team member. Now, the list of site
contributors has grown, and everyone is acknowledged as apart
of a fan collective without whom this site would not be
possible in the current form. In mid 2005 Cyn (who has been a Micallef fan since
the very first days of Roger Explosion) took over prime
managerial duties.
Early in the site's existence,
Suzanne requested and was
granted permission from Shaun's agent to contact her
occasionally for updates regarding Shaun's career. The
intention was for the site to provide useful information about
Shaun to fans and give them a
reason to frequently check back. Several months later, in March 2004, Shaun himself
emailed Suzanne (though at first she thought it was a hoax) to compliment
the site, and thank everyone for their hard work.
As it stands now,
Shaun is very supportive of the site and shares news about his
projects with us, but we are first and foremost a fan-site.
Shaun does not tell us how to run the site or what to put on
it. We are responsive to what the fans want, and strive to
make the site a fun, friendly and interactive place.
Frequently Asked Questions
1.
Are you an official site?
Well, define
"Official"...if you mean, 'are we employed by Shaun
or his management ?', the answer is no. As stated above
and in our disclaimer, this site is not affiliated with any
agency, organisation, network, government ministry,
institution, you name it. We are just a collective of fans who
maintain this site from our home computers in our spare time
and answer only to ourselves. If you mean 'are we the definitive
source of Micallef news and information, with contributions
from Shaun and his full endorsement of the site?', then yes. As we have noted,
Shaun is supportive of the site, and provides us with updates
so the news we present is "official". It really is the best of
both worlds, if you ask us. Total creative control AND
legitimacy! Cool!
2.
Why doesn't Shaun have an Official official site?
Why
would he when a few fanatics like us do all this for free?? No
headache for Shaun, supreme street cred among Micallef fans for
the webmasters ... (and occasional hot chocolate ...)
3.
What is Shaun doing these days?
This is always kept up
to date on our updates page. That should be the first page you always go to
on our site, as we are so ADHD that anytime we hear of news,
we post it immediately. We usually give a heads up in the
forum about it too. We also love getting news from you guys.
If a fan emails us with a piece of news, a Shaun related link,
an article, favourite quote, a picture, whatever, we post it
immediately and credit the person who sent it
in.
4.
How can I contact Shaun?
Postal mail can be
addressed to:
Shaun Micallef c/o
BGM 128 Rupert Street, Collingwood Victoria AUSTRALIA
3066.
Shaun does not have a
public email address.
For professional enquires (such
as wanting an interview, wanting to work with or hire Shaun)
please go through the appropriate professional channels to
make such contacts. You can book Shaun for event compere
duties through www.celebrityspeakers.com.au
We do not pass on emails making enquiries to Shaun at
his request.
5.
Will Shaun read my script/sketch/poem/screenplay/grocery list?
Can you guys get a message to him for me?
"As refusal often
offends....." It is usually pretty standard in the
entertainment industry that industry professionals are advised
not to accept or read unsolicited material. This is mainly so
they do not set themselves up for potential plagiarism
lawsuits. Such as in the event that your screenplay has a
scene in which a man walks his dog down the street, and then
Shaun appears in a film and a dog runs by in the background
and you decide to sue because he 'stole' your idea of having a
dog in the film....yada yada yada. So typically, you are
expected to be represented by an agent, and if you send
scripts or sketches to people without agent representation, it
is likely your manila envelope will end up unopened in the
trash bin.
Also, we respect that
Shaun keeps a full schedule and has kindly volunteered to
share information with us to place on the site. We do not wish
to take advantage of this goodwill by barraging him with
endless requests. So we will not relay personal messages. Feel
free to write a fan letter to the address given above - Shaun
will most likely enjoy your feedback.
6.
Does Shaun post in/read the forum?
Shaun remarked about
the forum :"I pop in most days just to see what's
happening...I think it's great that there's a meeting place
for like-minded people to pop in and talk about comedy."
Whether he posts or not is solely up to him, but he may feel
he is interfering if he interjected - particularly when most
of the conversation is about him. He has told us he wants
people to feel free to express their true opinions, even if
they are not favourable of his work. He appreciates the honest
feedback.
7.
Will Shaun ever do another series of "The Micallef
P(r)ogram(me)"?
At this time, it is
not on the books. Shaun, in interviews, has commented he is
not particularly interested in doing only "deconstructionist"
sketch comedy, and wants to explore working in other formats.
But you never know. Whatever upcoming project Shaun has, it
will be on our updates page. *Keep your eyes peeled for
"Mouse Patrol" on the ABC in 2005* If that is not the answer you
wanted to hear, you can always go bitch about it in the forum.
(Personally, we applaud Shaun for his courage to not be
pigeonholed into one thing his whole creative life...but
that's just how we feel.)
8.
How can I get copies of "The Micallef P(r)ogram(me)"? (Or
"Micallef Tonight", or "Welcher & Welcher"?)
The Micallef P(r)ogram(me) is now available for commercial sale from all good DVD retailers. All three series have now been released. At the moment, both Welcher and Welcher and Micallef Tonight are in the pipeline to be released on DVD also, we will keep you up to date on what's happening on our Updates page. Shaun, however, does not
object to fan trading if what you are after is not
commercially available for purchase. Join the Micallef Digital
Archive Project - Information available
on the DAP
page. Do not offer, ask for, or
swap bootlegs of commercially released material, such as "The
Incompleat Micallef", or his films. Posts expressing offers to
trade illegal copies of such items will be removed from the
board and posters may face being banned from the
forum.
9. I
have a burning sensation in my ear every time I urinate.
Should I see a doctor?
Most likely, but try
aspirin first. It usually works for everything else. Either
that, or stop urinating in your ear.
