Digital Archive Project

The Shaun Micallef Digital Archive Project (DAP) aims to collect and archive the visual work of Shaun Micallef throughout his career - from his early work making educational corporate videos to his latest television work and film projects.  Shaun Micallef's Online World Around Him hopes to have a complete catalogue of Shaun's work archived in DVD-R format to be kept for future generations.*

So does this mean I can get those Welcher and Welcher episodes I forgot to tape?  Good question, yes it does.  Let me tell you how.  Please do!  I am, could you just let me get a word in edgewise???  Sheesh.  Well hurry it up then.  Okay, okay!

Current and Upcoming Digital Archive Projects

DAP Volume 1 (October 2004):  Shaun on Blue Heelers (1998)

DAP Volume 2 (November 2004):  Shaun Hosting the Logies

DAP Volume 3 (February 2006):  Micallef Tonight (Complete)

NEW:   DAP Volume 4 (June 2007):  Micallef Tonight Pilots

DAP Volume 5 (TBA):  Welcher & Welcher (subject to change)

DAP Volume 6 (TBA):  Shaun on the Panel, Rove, etc (subject to change)

DAP Volume 7 (TBA):  Full Frontal sketches not on the "Incompleat" DVD (subject to change)

Note:  We are currently waiting to hear whether Welcher and Welcher will get a commercial release.  So far, it looks like it will.  If so, it will not go ahead in the DAP.  We will let you know when Shock get it on the shelves.

How it works

Please note that the DAP process has recently changed, due to problems with the "Dubbing Tree".  Unfortunately it didn't work as well as we hoped it would.  This new system ensures that people who want something will get it ASAP, provided instructions are followed.

Following is a step by step guide on how to do your part to get DAP material:

1:  Print out and complete an order form:
Indicate which DAP volume(s) you're after, plus necessary details such as name and address.
Order form is available online here.

2:  Email one of the site team for a mailing address:
Refer to the guide below to find out who you must send your discs to, as they will be burning the DVDs for you -

PLEASE NOTE THE RECENT CHANGES!

All those in the UK and surrounding area - email Viv

For everyone within Australia/NZ
If your FIRST name starts with A to G - email
Stu
If your FIRST name starts with H to Q - email
Cyn
If your FIRST name starts with R to Z - email Jen

US, Europe and Asia:  please email us your location so we can work out where best to send it from.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE NOW ONLY HAVE THE TWO SITE TEAM MEMBERS AVAILABLE FOR BURNING IN AUSTRALIA AT THE MOMENT, AND WE BOTH WORK/STUDY FULL TIME AND HAVE KIDS, SO PLEASE BE PATIENT IN GETTING YOUR DVDs BACK!  We aim to have them back in the post within a week of receiving them.

(Make sure you delete '.nospam' at the end of the email address before sending.)  The relevant site team member will then email you back with their postal address.

3:  Send in your blank discs and return postage:
You must send a ratio of 2 blank DVD-R's for each DVD.  For example, the current project is Micallef Tonight, which will total 5 DVD's, so you will need to send 10 blank DVD-R discs.  These extra discs you send are payment for the service.  Please understand that we do not get paid in any other way to do the DAP or any other site work.  The extra discs you send will be used for site purposes (eg: server backups, and other necessities).  They must be good quality discs Please also send CASES for us to return your discs in.  We will not be held responsible for damage on loose discs/discs on spindles, as once we have copied them, we will send them back the way they came.  The site team can no longer supply cases.

You MUST also send return postage.  Prepaid bags are preferred, so include a 500g prepaid bag (the small red and white ones, available from any Australia Post Shop).  If you are outside Australia, please mention this in your email to the relevant site team member.  We cannot take this out of our own pocket, so if you don't include return postage, you don't get your discs.

4:  Sit by the mailbox:
If you've followed the above instructions, you should get your DAP volume(s) back to you in a reasonable time.

To find out when the next DAP installment is released, check this page for updates, or email Stu to go on the mailing list.

Shaun has no issues with fans trading his work (he is quite happy people want to watch it!), but we have given him our word that we are going to do right by him and keep this whole thing legal - so it must be emphasized that bootlegging of commercially released material will not be advocated or tolerated by SMOWAH.*

What the Archive is still missing

*  Jimeoin - Shaun has writing credits and some appearances

*  BlackJack (Shaun and Gary wrote the first screenplay and co-produced the following three)

*  TV commercials featuring Shaun (eg:  Lays biscuits, Bank West)

*  Any additional promotional appearances on news programs and talk shows

If you can help with any of this source material, please email Stu.

Something nice ...

We thank those people who have thus far supported the site by requesting DAP items, contributing videos, following orders and invading foreign lands for us.  We get many thanks in return, but thought this one was particularly nice:

"I got the dvd's today(Friday) after sending them on Monday which I am extremely happy with as I wasn't expecting to get them until Monday at the very earliest. The quality is better than I expected as well. After expecting never to see these hilarious shows again, paying for postage and giving you some blank DVD-R's was an extremely small price to pay. Thank you for doing what you do. Nice work."

*  Please note that we cannot copy and trade any of  Shaun's work that is commercially available.  We respect the copyright of commercially released material and we believe in supporting Shaun's commercial work.  It also ensures that more of his work will be released in the future:  for example, if the Programme Series Deux sells well, there will more than likely be a DVD release of the other two series.  Currently there is some material in the Archive that may well be released commercially in the future, and we urge you - even if you get copies of them from us - that you purchase the DVD's when they come out .  For information on what is now commercially available and where it can be purchased, please refer to the sidebar of the home page (on your left).  Shaun's latest releases are featured on the home page.
